- Caregiver permanent residency pathways
The caregivers seeking entry through the Canadian Federal Government can seek permanent residency status through live-in caregiver program (also called as LCP). Other similar programs include-

Live in Caregiver Program or LCP
Though the Live in Caregiver Program or LCP is presently closed for new applications, the individuals can use this opportunity to gain permanent residence status. However, such candidates must have at least two years of work experience and must have:
- Already worked with the nation through the LCP work permit
- Approved previously for LCP by an employer and Labour Market Impact Assessment scores before November 30, 2014.
Caring for the Children Program
The Canadian Caring for the Children Program (presently terminated) is available for international Immigrants with following essentials:
- Two years of experience of full time employment within the past 4 years.
- At least 30 hours per week work time as Canadian home child care professional
- Valid breaks in employment allowed due to sickness, paternal or maternal leave
- Meet the requirements of home Childcare Provider as given by the National Occupational Register NOC4411.
- Have one year Canadian post secondary or equivalent postsecondary education with the Education Credentials Assessment or ECA
- Canadian Language Benchmark score of CLB 5 in either French language or English.
- Cared previously for the children below 18 years of age either in home or employment agencies. Foster parents are not eligible for the benefit mentioned in the program.
Caring for People with High Medical Needs
Caring for People with High Medical Needs (presently terminated) is possible for caregivers having the following credentials-
- Two years of experience of full time employment within the past 4 years.
- One year Canadian post graduate or equivalent foreign post secondary education program from foreign universities
- Canadian Language Benchmark proficiency of 5-7 in French language or English language.
- Cared previously for the people who have high medical needs, either in home or employment agencies. Foster parents are not eligible for the benefit mentioned in the program.
Interim pathway for caregivers (freshly opened)
Interim pathway for caregivers (freshly opened for a period of three months) is possible for caregivers having the following credentials-
- One years of experience of full time employment post 30 November, 2014.
- One year Canadian post graduate or equivalent foreign post secondary or education program from foreign universities
- Canadian Language Benchmark proficiency of 5 in French language or English language.
- This must be noted that the scores should be in the reading, listening, writing and speaking front.
Home Childcare Provider and Home Support Workers Pilot Program (currently available)
The Home Childcare Provider and Home Support Workers Pilot Program (currently available as the replacement of Caring for Children and Caring for people with High Medical Needs pilot immigration Programs) offers permanent residency status to all such caregivers post completion of two years in the field in the nation.
Caregivers with work experience as given by the NOC 4411 (except for foster parents) are also eligible for the permanent residency status through the Home Childcare Provider and Home Support Workers Pilot Program. Likewise, caregivers with experience in the NOC 4412 (except for housekeeping staff) are eligible for similar status.
However, it must be noted that these Home Childcare Provider and Home Support Workers Pilot Programs will offer just work permits to eligible caregivers who meet the following requirements-
- One year Canadian post graduate or equivalent foreign post secondary or education program from foreign universities
- Canadian Language Benchmark proficiency of 5 in French language or English language.
- Admissibility status to the Canadian lands
- Existing caregivers with relevant experience are also eligible for the pilot program.
Further, each of these programs offer maximum number of 2750 principal applicants for the grant of permanent residency status out of the total 5500 applications received each year. Also, the pilot brings following advantages-
- Occupation specific permits for the existing and potential caregivers. This gives job and career switching opportunities.
- Open Work Permits to the dependents including spouse, common law partner and children. They too can join the principal applicant in the nation.

The Home Childcare Provider and Home Support Workers Pilot Program is open as of 18 June, 2019 for a period of three months only. This replaces the earlier Caring for Children and Caring for People with High Medical Needs programs of Canadian Federal Government.
- Applications for Permanent Residency Program using the Live In Caregiver Program or LCP
The program is presently closed for new applications. However, caregivers having two years work experience and fulfil the eligibility for the Live In Caregiver Program or LCP may apply for Canadian residency program. LMIA applications received before November 30, 2014 are eligible for the program as well.
- Eligibility for applications to Interim Pathway for Caregivers pilot
Caregivers having one year of work experience as given by the NOC 4411 (except for foster parents) are also eligible for the permanent residency status through the Home Childcare Provider and Home Support Workers Pilot Program. Likewise, caregivers with experience in the NOC 4412 (except for housekeeping staff) are eligible for similar status.
- Eligibility for applications to Interim Pathway for Caregivers pilot from outside Canada
An individual fulfilling the above status as well as the following requirements can apply for Interim Pathway for Caregivers pilot from outside Canada:
- Have a work permit
- Or, Have applied for extension of such visa
- Awaiting decision on Work permit
- Have applied for restoration of worker status.
