Who Doesn’t Need a Visa to Travel to Canada?

Some people can travel to Canada without getting a visitor visa because of different reasons:

1. Their Nationality:- Depending on the country they are citizens of.
2. Their Documents:- The type of official papers they have.
3. The Reason for Their Visit: Why they want to go to Canada.

Most of these people still need to apply for something called an eTA. It’s like an online form to make sure they can enter Canada. But if someone is a citizen of the US or has a green card (permanent residency) in the US, they don’t need an eTA. Some others don’t need it either.

New Countries Added to the List

On June 6, 2023, Canada decided that people from some new countries don’t need a visa to visit. But there’s a condition: they can only use this benefit if they are flying to Canada and if they have either had a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or have a valid non-immigrant visa from the United States. So, this is like how it is for people from Brazil. Here’s the list of the new countries:

– Antigua and Barbuda
– St. Kitts and Nevis
– St. Lucia
– St. Vincent and the Grenadines
– Trinidad and Tobago
– Seychelles
– Argentina
– Costa Rica
– Panama
– Uruguay
– Morocco
– Philippines
– Thailand

Remember, this visa-free travel rule only applies to people flying. If you’re coming by car, train, bus, or boat (even a cruise ship), you need a different kind of permission called a TRV.

Why Is This Good?

There are some good things about not needing a visa:

1. Getting an eTA is cheaper than getting a TRV. It costs only $7 instead of $100 (but the fees might change).
2. eTA applications usually get approved very quickly, often within minutes. But getting a TRV can take weeks.
3. You don’t need to provide a special fingerprint or photo information for an eTA. But you need to do that for a TRV.
4. Usually, eTA applications get rejected less often than TRV applications.
5. If you don’t need a visa, you can often apply for work permits when you arrive in Canada. The officers at the entry point usually process these applications quickly, often within minutes. However, applying online might take longer and could get rejected.
